Roofing for Fort Thomas's hilltop and river-bluff homes
Fort Thomas sits high on the southern bank of the Ohio River in Campbell County. The city grew up around the U.S. Army post that General Philip Sheridan sited here in 1887 on high ground he called "the Highlands," named Fort Thomas for General George Henry Thomas. The 1890 stone water tower at Tower Park still stands from that era, and the city's motto is "City of Beautiful Homes."
That high ground is great for views, and it's hard on roofs:
- Wind exposure. Homes on the ridges and bluffs above the river take the full force of storm winds. Lifted or missing shingles and loose ridge caps are common after a strong storm.
- Roof-to-wall joints. Many Fort Thomas homes mix brick, siding, and several roof levels. Every spot where a roof runs into a wall needs step and counter flashing done right, or water gets behind the wall.
- Mature trees and shade. Wooded lots drop leaves and branches into valleys and gutters, and shaded slopes grow algae streaks.
- Freeze-thaw winters. Northern Kentucky's winters turn small leaks and loose flashing into bigger problems.
If you see lifted or missing shingles, granules in the gutters, dark streaks, or stains on a ceiling after a storm, schedule an inspection.

Gutters in Fort Thomas, KY
Wooded Fort Thomas lots fill gutters fast, and on a hillside, overflowing gutters send water down the slope toward the foundation. Fortress Solutions installs new gutters, including seamless gutters, and repairs existing ones. We can handle gutters along with a roof replacement, so the drip edge, gutter apron, and gutters all work together, or as a separate job. Recent project in Fort Thomas: new roof on a home overlooking the Ohio River
This recent job was a full roof replacement on a large brick and siding home on a wooded bluff above the Ohio River, with views across to the Cincinnati side and Lunken Airport.
- Tear-off, new decking, and new shingles. The old, weathered shingles came off, the crew replaced all of the roof decking, installed new ice and water barrier, and then the crew installed new CertainTeed Landmark PRO architectural shingles in Espresso across every shingled section of the roof, including the main house, the garage, and the lower roof levels.
- Flashing at the brick walls. Where the roof runs into the brick walls, the crew installed new step flashing and a new metal counter flashing that is fastened to the wall and sealed along the brick, so water runs over the shingles instead of behind them.
- Complex roofline. The home has several roof levels, valleys, and a chimney. The crew installed new ridge vents, new pipe flashings, and new chimney and wall flashings. The drone photos show the finished roof from above, before and after.
- Copper gutters. Fortress installed new 6" K-style copper gutters with 4" round copper downspouts, including along the covered deck.
- White glove cleanup. The job finished with our signature Fortress "white glove" cleanup, including a magnetic nail sweep, and a final walkthrough with the homeowner.

Roofing FAQs for Fort Thomas, KY
Do you repair wind and storm damage in Fort Thomas?
Yes. We repair lifted, creased, and missing shingles, loose ridge caps, and damaged flashing, and we document the damage with photos. If the damage is widespread, we'll tell you whether a replacement makes more sense.
How do I know if I need a roof repair or a full replacement?
Isolated problems such as a few missing shingles, a failed pipe boot, or a flashing leak can usually be repaired. Widespread curling, heavy granule loss, many leak points, or a soft deck usually mean replacement is the better value. We'll show you photos from the inspection.

Very professional and answered all our questions. Sales man kept us up to date throughout the process & even messaged pictures of the work in progress. They sent a double crew as our job was very large. They worked until dark & came back the next morning. They left the property spotless. We are very pleased. Highly recommended!
